AN announcement could be made soon on further take-up of units at the 28East Retail Park now being completed in Newport.
Woolworths' low-cost superstore Big W is due to open on Friday, October 4. It will be the first occupant.
There are rumours that at least two other companies are currently planning a move. In addition to Big W's, there are six other units being built and one of them can be split into two.
The whole park is being built speculatively by Newbridge Construction with every hope that all the units will be quickly occupied.
Property development insiders say that the quality of accommodation at 28East could see some 'rearrangement' of occupancy in the area, where some units are much older.
But any retail units, old or new, served by Docks Way in the Maesglas area are are likely to remain popular with the coming of the city's Southern Distributor Road, giving faster links to the east and west sides of Newport.
