THERE'S something for all the family on Britain's longest and most lovingly restored heritage railway covering 20 miles of stunning Somerset countryside and coastal scenery.
Step back in time to the golden age of steam on a Great Western Railway country branch line with unique charm, character and pure pastoral pleasure abounding throughout every one of the glorious miles.
Passengers are able to relax as the trains travels through restored period stations, passing manicured gardens, signal boxes and level crossings. Smoke, steam, oil and grease - an experience to truly invade all the senses.
The charming line runs from Bishops Lydeard (near Taunton), past the Quantock Hills towards the coast at Minehead serving ten stations on the way.
Traditional 'chocolate and cream' coaches are hauled by classic motive power operate to daily timetables. Manors, Prairies and Panniers rescued from scrapyards now gleam and glisten in the afternoon sun while puffing about their business.
Once again the West Somerset Railway Station at Bishops Lydeard will echo to the sound of many mighty steam engines as they gather for the 16th rally on August 3 and 4.
A glittering array of superb machinery will be in action alongside restored country stations on Britain's longest preserved railway and this year looks like beating all records with some of the country's finest examples of vintage transport on display.
Gleaming showman's engines, powerful steam tractors and road rollers, elegant vintage cars and motorcycles, superb fire engines, buses, commercial and military vehicles will all be put through their paces in the arena to thrill the crowds. New attractions this year will be steam ploughing on adjacent land and horse drawn exhibits.
Bishops Lydeard Steam Fayre is well known for its friendly atmosphere and good value for money. Backing up the vintage vehicles will be displays, stalls, trade stands, children's entertainments and ample refreshment facilities. Entry rates: Adults, £4.50, OAP, £3.50, children £2, Family ticket (two adults, two children, £11.50, weekend rate, one and a half times daily rate.
