AUSSIE flier Frank Smart is in a super confident mood. The Newport Wasps ace is, as ever, buzzing with enthusiasm and oozing self-belief. Smart is dusting off his bike to prepare for the Wasps' Knock-out Cup first round re-run with Edinburgh Monarchs tomorrow (7pm) - necessary after the teams finished all square at the first attempt.
The Australian goes into this meeting on the back of a magnificent ride in the Premier League Knock-out Pairs where, together with team-mate and fellow countryman Craig Watson, he was runner-up to the Isle of Wight.
Smart also put in an almost faultless performance at Newcastle Diamonds on Monday - and now he's plotting to reproduce that deadly form against the Scottish side at Hayley Stadium tomorrow.
Smart believes he and his colleagues can do the job on the Tartan Army. "If we perform to our full potential I am confident we can do the business over Edinburgh," said Smart yesterday.
"We have had a very up-and-down Premier League and cup campaign and we are desperate to find some sort of consistency. "The season is gradually reaching its finale so we, as a team, need to find that form soon."
Smart and Wasps captain Watson are gelling and forming a deadly partnership - and the aforementioned rider beamed: "I'm very happy with our performances - we are both bang on form."
And they'll need to show all their talents as the Monarchs look to book themselves a round two clash with Arena Essex.
Edinburgh, fresh from their win at league-leaders and title-favourites Hull in midweek, are dangerous and should not be taken lightly.
They have top stars Frede Schott, the Danish international, and Pete Carr, who loves the Hayley Stadium track, in their armoury.
But Wasps promoter Tim Stone insisted: "We are quite capable of winning the tie. "All of our riders must give 100 per cent because otherwise we could get turned over. "But if all our equipment is as it should be, I have no doubt we will go through. However, we must get at Edinburgh early on and take points of them straight away."
