A NEWPORT women's bowling club is celebrating 75 proud years of history - with only one rude interruption.
Belle Vue Ladies Bowls club celebrated the 75th anniversary with a special lunch and match on July 7.
Over the years, they have contributed players to the Welsh national team, including a captain, and have provided entertainment and good conversation for generations of members.
But one incident brought them firmly into the public eye when a young man streaked at one of their matches last year.
Club secretary Pat Gripton said: "Yes, we are always being asked about that. We were just having a quiet game last July when a naked man sprinted round the green.
"It was nothing we hadn't seen before and most of the members just had a good laugh about it. It made us realise we had done the right thing by having a ladies only club.
"We are hoping for a very successful next 75 years without too many rude interruptions. "Over the years the club has gone from strength to strength and we have done marvellously well in competitions as well as having a great time socially.
"I have been putting together a special album, with all the photos of players and events over the years. It's really amazing to see the changes in style of the clothes and the hair and to think we are still playing the same game in the same place."
