SKIPPER Jason Forster and the rest of his Commonwealth Games team firmly believe Wales will win a medal in Manchester next month.

The final Wales 12-man squad includes former Wales international great Robert Howley, Dafydd James and Gareth Thomas.

None played in the IRB Sevens series, but Wales believe their addition will boost their bid for a medal at the sell-out tournament.

"It's great to be named as captain and we are determined to make all of Wales proud of us," said Newport flanker Forster.

"I love sevens. It's a great opportunity to show all your attributes such as ball skills and defensive skills.

"I was on stand-by for Kuala Lumpur four years ago, so it's superb to be involved this time. It's a new challenge in my career.

"The players brought in provide a wealth of experience.

"We'll have to be 100% for every match and adapt a killer instinct but we can win a medal."

Team manager David Rees said: "A medal is not beyond us. We reached the semi-finals of the IRB Sevens in Hong Kong and Twickenham. We won't be overawed by anyone."

Coach Colin Hillman commented: "We've got a good blend of youth and experience and a medal is a real possibility.

"We beat South Africa (favourites in Wales' group) last year. If we can beat them and top our group we will have an easier path to the final, and that's the aim."

Wales will take part in the opening ceremony on July 25, return home to complete preparations and move to the athletes' village on July 30.

Their first and second group games are against Sri Lanka and Tonga on August 2 before meeting South Africa in their final game on August 4.
