NEWPORT pupils took up a challenge to become the top team in a competition organised by the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme.
Youngsters from all eight comprehensive schools in the area were invited to take part in the contest. Activities included climbing, a team challenge and a quiz.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award show trailer was at Lliswerry School and St Joseph's School last week to introduce young people to the scheme.
The award scheme's philosophy is to encourage children to use their leisure time constructively.
When four categories are completed - skills, physical recreation, service and expedition - the participant becomes a bronze, silver or gold award holder.
Further information about the scheme is available from Carole Fereday on 01633-821417.
