WALES' most-capped netball player might not be gracing the courts of Manchester, but we'll still have two representative's at the Games flying the flag for Gwent, writes Noel Davies
Newport's Emma Blanks and Abergavenny's Sara Hale have both been highlighted by performance coach Alison Wieringa as players the fans should keep their eyes on as netball makes its second appearance at the Games.
Blanks, at 25, is an integral figurehead in the 12-strong squad. With 30-caps to her name and in the absence of Weston she is carrying much of the side's hopes on her gifted shoulders.
"She's a senior member of the team and we'll be looking to her experience. She has a wise head and has been a great servant to the team. She's come into her own over the last few seasons and is a key player in the defence," Wieringa said.
Former Wales captain Helen Weston was full of praise for young starlet Sara Hale a player she has singled out as the ace to fill her shoes.
"Helen's a great player. At 19 she's coming into the set-up at the same age as I did. She has it all and has a great future ahead of her.
"She is just the player to step in where I have gone from," Weston said.
