MORE than 100 people marched through Risca on Saturday to protest against a proposed waste recycling plant.
The march, pictured, from Pontymister to Cross Keys College, aimed to highlight residents' concerns at plans by aggregates suppliers Hanson to turn Risca quarry into the plant.
Children carrying banners and placards joined the march, while shops and businesses in the town displayed protest posters in their windows.
Organisers said the number who turned out indicated the strength of feeling against the proposals. Keith Dixon, chairman of the Risca Quarry Action Group, said: "Our purpose is to raise awareness in Risca and Crosskeys of the potential hazards of this application.
"It is important to show members of Caerphilly council the feelings of the community and residents against this proposal."
He said people were worried about possible adverse affects the plant could have.
A petition against the plans has been signed by more than 2,000 people and is due to be handed to Caerphilly council's planning committee.
A public meeting has been arranged by residents, for 7pm tomorrow at Crosskeys College.
