CRAIG Watson and his pal Frank Smart hope to be parading the Premier League Pairs trophy around Hayley Stadium on Sunday and said: "We are doing this for Newport Wasps."
The two ace riders face a tough task to just get through their group at Workington on Saturday night before travelling back to Wales for Sunday's Premier League meeting with Stoke Potters.
However, this is a competition which means a lot to the Aussies and Watson has vowed they will give it their best shot despite facing some stiff competition from Workington's Carl Stonehewer, the only Grand Prix Series rider in the Premier League, and his mate Peter Karlsson.
The Newport pair have to finish in the top two in order to get into the final but also have tough Sheffield pair Sean Watson and Simon Stead to trouble them in their pool.
Captain Craig said: "I'm not really sure who will be the biggest rival but I'm not worried about the track or anything like that.
"Me and Frank ride really well together. We always look forward to these sort of things because you are racing for your team not just for yourself.
"This is a really big meeting and we are there representing Newport Wasps.
"I think we have got the hardest group, though, with Workington and Sheffield there. "If we can make it through our group, then we have got a good chance of winning it.
"Carl and Peter will be really hard to beat on their home track but that does not mean they will win it.
"And Simon Stead has only just come back from injury so we don't know what sort of form he's in at the moment.
"But I'm not worried about it. Me and Frank are good enough riders to go through to the final."
They have certainly proved that in Newport Wasps' meetings recently where they are virtually unbeatable at home in heats 13 and 15.
But Watson dismisses any sort of notion that there is a bit of friendly rivalry between the two of them should one win and the other finish second.
He added: "That sort of thing doesn't matter. All we are doing is trying to get some points for the team."
A week on Sunday, the Wasps are in the four-team tournament in Coventry but a bit of silverware tomorrow would be quite nice to start with.
