ARMY bomb disposal experts were called to Gilwern yesterday after nine explosives, seven of them live, believed to date from the Second World War were discovered.
The devices were found by a workman digging a trench for a new pipeline for gas supplier Transco.
Four other devices were found at the same site on June 27.
The latest discovery was made at around 8am, west of Gilwern above Llanelly Church.
Inspector Mark Wheatsone of Gwent Police said "Last time ordnance consistent with world war two mortar bombs were destroyed by a bomb disposal team."
He added: "It is more than probable that other similar devices will be found as the site being cleared was a firing range used by British and American troops during the last war."
A spokeswoman for Transco said: ""I believe some of the devices were detonated in a safe and controlled manner and some other ordnance has been removed by the bomb disposal unit."
Police stood down from the area at 6.30pm.
