FRANK Warren has blasted WBA, WBC and IBF light-heavyweight king Roy Jones Jnr for choosing to fight Clinton Woods and not WBO super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe.
Top promoter Warren, pictured with Calzaghe, said he could not believe that Jones is prepared to fight Woods given that he does not respect him and reckons he would be 'embarrassed' to be in the same ring as him.
Warren said: "I can't believe that Jones is prepared to come over here and fight Woods but has always refused to even contemplate fighting Joe.
"Clinton is a great lad who has earned his chance, but he's not in the same league as Calzaghe.
"Jones has gone on record as saying he thinks Clinton is a nobody who he is embarrassed to be fighting.
"We've offered him every opportunity to fight Calzaghe in what could be one of the best fights ever seen in the UK.
"What's more, I'm prepared to offer him a non-title fight, which would overcome any problems about getting the bout sanctioned by the world title bodies," added Warren.
"Roy and Joe are two of the best guys fighting at middleweight."
Warren also likened Jones' decision to fight Woods to the great American champions of yesteryear coming to the UK to fight the local hope back in the 1960s and 1970s.
"It's like the Muhammad Ali show rolling into town," said Warren. "Everyone gets to see a great fighter in action, but there's no chance of a victory for the home guy."
Calzaghe is believed to be fighting American Antwun Echols in his next contest but would also like to meet Bernard Hopkins, who holds the other three super-middleweight crowns, at some stage.
Calzaghe, writing in his weekly Argus column inside today, said: "I'm tired of asking him (Jones) for a fight. He is a one-off, he is a corporation in himself. If Roy says no, there is absolutely nothing you can do other than try changing your name by deed poll to Clinton Woods!"
