CWMBRAN Town have taken their number of new signings to four ahead of the 2002-2003 season which starts with a home game against Aberystwyth Town on Friday, August 16, 7.30pm.
The League of Wales' third top goalscorer, Chris Summers, links up with the club for the fourth time while 6ft 4in central defender Gareth Warton has been snapped up from league rivals Llanelli. Summers played five times on loan for the Crows from Merthyr Tydfil during the 1997-98 season before signing on a permanent deal at the start of the following campaign.
He was Cwmbran's leading scorer in the 98-99 season with 21 goals and again in 99-00 when he netted 28 times before rejoining Merthyr. He returned briefly to Cwmbran in 2000-2001 taking his goal tally in all competitions for the club to 61 in 84 full and four sub appearances. With 131 goals in 163 full and 27 substitute appearances, Summers is third top scorer behind Bangor City's Marc Lloyd-Williams (148 in 206+11) and former Aberystwyth Town and Newtown marksman Kevin Morrison (140 in 219+14).
Besides Merthyr, Summers, who started his career with Cardiff City, has also played for Hereford United, Barry Town, Inter Cardiff, Ton Pentre, Carmarthen Town and Haverfordwest County.
Rhondda Valley-based Warton, 23 next month, signed for Llanelli from Rhayadar Town three seasons ago.
