MUM Gail Cole picked up more than just groceries when she went to the supermarket with daughter Jodie.
For Gail is now officially a Supermum after she won the regional heat of the national search for the UK's best mum. She was presented with the prize at the Asda store in Duffryn, Newport.
Gail, from Fosse Road, Lliswerry, was nominated by Jodie, who suffers with cystic fibrosis.
Jodie, 23, was diagnosed when she was just one week old and doctors said she would live less than five years.
In her letter to the competition judges, Jodie said: "I was diagnosed when I was about one week old and from then on my life has been filled with pills every day, physio which my mum and dad would carry out twice a day and many visits to hospitals."
Jodie has been told that there is no cure for her illness and that her life expectancy has increased to around 30 years.
She added: "I feel very lucky to have such a loving, caring mum who always pulls me through the tough times when things get me down, or helps me with the shopping and cleaning in my flat if I do get ill."
Asda's events co-ordinator, Sue Messenger, said that choosing the winner was difficult but that Jodie's letter was a deserved winner. She said: "It is a very moving letter."
Gail said she was shocked to receive the award. "I couldn't really believe it, I knew nothing about Jodie putting my name forward." Gail picked up a £15 Asda gift voucher plus a bunch of flowers when she arrived in the store.
