CELTIC Manor's Lauren Diggle (pictured) gave a firm indication that she is going to enjoy a highly successful season in finishing joint second in the Tenby Ladies' Open Scratch Tournament for the Texaco Trophy.
In fact, 19-year-old Diggle led the field after the first round with a stunning three under par 70 but faded somewhat after lunch taking a 76 for a 36 hole aggregate of 146. That left the three-handicapper some four strokes behind winner Anna Highgate the Glamorgan champion who had level rounds of 71 having started the tournament as favourite.
There was a disappointment for Natasha Morgan, runner-up in the Monmouthshire Championship a year ago as she crashed to scores of 80 and 83 for a 163 aggregate while defending champion Alison Waller finished in fourth place with a 154 aggregate. l Pontypool Golf Club's annual meeting saw new captain Keith Allen elected together with other officers and new committee members.
The new captain already drove in last month, after a very successful social was held in the evening attended by over 130 people.

Meanwhile club members Richard Williams, Dale Barry and Jim Peploe won the Cock-y-North. The runners-up are Brian Roberts, Bruce Watkins and Andrew Darby. They will now represent Pontypool at the county finals at Rolls of Monmouth on May 5. Unfortunately, the Pontypool team in The Mail On Sunday team competition lost to St Pierre. The men's team captains for the year 2002 will again be Vince Collins, Brian Roberts and Doug Ford, we wish them every success.
