TRAIN passengers at Newport have seen a change of operator as Wales & Borders Trains take over the station from First Great Western.
The change of operator is part of plans to improve the rail network by creating an all-Wales franchise.
The process began last October with the creation of Wales & Borders Trains, which inherited all former Wales & West services in Wales, as well as major routes to Birmingham, London Waterloo and the South West.
The creation of the new company has put a framework in place for the new all-Wales franchise due to be awarded next year.
All of the former First Great Western mainline stations - Newport, Cardiff, Bridgend, Port Talbot, Neath and Swansea - now come under the management of Wales & Borders Trains.
Managing Director Chris Gibb said: "Our objective is to build on the achievements of First Great Western, working with partners in both the public and private sector to offer the best facilities possible for our customers."
