A total of 14 members of the Newport young firefighters' organisation raised more than £200 by pumping iron.
The cash will help to buy equipment for Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital's special baby unit.
The youngsters, pictured, from the branch in Malpas aged between 13 to 17, lifted a total of nine tonnes - the equivalent weight of their fire engine - with a series of light repetitions in a gym.
The event took place at Club Indigo, Rafiki Leisure Park in Cwmbran under the watchful eye of five volunteer instructors.
The teenagers, always on the look out for fund raising ideas, decided to raise money for the hospital after a recent visit from a nurse who showed them the tiny equipment needed to help keep premature and sick babies alive.
Branch officer for the Young Firefighters Fiona Bevan said: "The enthusiasm from the young people was paramount.
"They were so motivated, and completed the task so quickly all the instructors were impressed.
"It shows they have a positive attitude to help their local community."
