CWMBRAN'S red-hot light-middleweight prospect Gary 'The Rocket' Lockett's promising his fans a real show when he fights in Wales for the first time a week on Saturday.
Lockett, (pictured) the explosive punching talent in the light-middleweight division makes the first defence of his WBO Intercontinental title on at the Cardiff International Arena against a challenger to be named shortly.
The unbeaten 25-year-old features as chief-support to Newbridge's WBO world super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe who makes the tenth defence of his title against American Charles Brewer.
In his 16-fight professional career, Lockett has never fought in Wales and is relishing the big night as it approaches.
"I can't wait for April 20," said Lockett who beat tough Australian Kevin Kelly in Manchester in February to snatch the vacant intercontinental title.
He added: "I'm so happy that I'm fighting on home ground at last. "The last time I fought here was as an amateur five years ago. So for me this can be seen as a long awaited return or my debut. Either way I will give the fans a real show that they deserve," said Lockett.
The C.I.A is close to a sell out 5,000 crowd and will no doubt have an electricity-charged atmosphere on the night similar to this time last year when Calzaghe defended his title against the German Mario Veit.
"It's going to be a fantastic night for Welsh boxing with myself, Joe and the other Welsh boys in a blockbuster show.
"The atmosphere will be incredible and I'm sure it will be an evening that I will never forget," finished Lockett.
Promoter Frank Warren said: "I'm delighted to bring him home to Wales and showcase him there where I know he has a tremendous following.
"Gary can become a real star not just in Britain but in the World. He is an exciting fighter which the fans want to see and has got dynamite packed in his fists." Completing the Gwent line-up next Saturday will be Calzaghe's Newbridge stablemates Bradley Pryce, Gavin Rees and Nathan King.
The latter two are involved in eight and six round contests with Pryce defending his IBF intercontinental crown.
Tickets for KO Kings, priced at £25, £50 and £75, are available from the Sports Network Box Office on: 01992 550 888.
