NEWPORT's Scott Smith looks to have bounced back from his crash and is set to take his place in the Wasps line-up for Friday's trip to Somerset Rebels, writes Ryland James.
The Australian fell heavily on the final bend of the last heat during Sunday's narrow win over the Rebels and had to sit out Monday's cracking 48-43 win over Exeter, as Newport used a rider replacement.
But despite being taken to hospital for x-rays on a badly bruised back, Newport promoter Tim Stone is optimistic Smith will face Somerset.
He said: "Scott is a tough guy and I'm sure he'll be fit for Friday. "He nearly raced against Exeter on Monday, but withdrew, because he was still in some discomfort.
"But halfway through the race on Monday he turned to me and said he wished he was out there."
Stone is delighted with Wasps' win at Exter, a notoriously hard place to pick up points, and Newport have boosted their chances of making the Premier Trophy semi-finals.
