LLYR Lane plays in the biggest game of his career on Saturday as part of the Ebbw Vale team in the Principality Cup semi-final against cup aces Llanelli.

But the following day, win or lose, Lane will resume training with Newport and prepare for a place on the bench against Neath next Wednesday.

For Lane (pictured) is only with Ebbw Vale on loan after moving up the valley in January. His path at Rodney Parade was blocked by Ofisa Tonu'u and Dale Burn and the idea was for the 21-year-old to gain vital experience.

He duly settled into the Vale team and established himself as first choice, but then came a serious injury to Burn, putting him out for the rest of the season, and Lane was recalled -- but not before that semi-final appearance.

"I had a call on Saturday saying that Dale had broken his ankle and that I would be recalled," said Lane.

"I went training with Ebbw Vale on Monday, but Newport contacted the club to say I wouldn't be recalled until after the semi-final.

"I was unsure of the situation, but I always knew there was a chance of going back to Newport and I prepared for it.

"Playing at the Millennium Stadium is obviously a big occasion, but it's another game and I'll get on with the job.

"Being a professional rugby player you've got to give 100% whoever you play for. I'll give 100% for Ebbw Vale then, from Sunday, I'll do the same with Newport." Adding to the sense of occasion on Saturday is the fact that Lane comes from Llanelli. He joined Newport last season via Bristol.

"Ebbw Vale have proved a good cup side, but Llanelli have proved themselves in Europe, they've got the experience and know-how to deal with the pressure," said Lane. "But we'll compete well and we've got good players too. It's not a foregone conclusion by any means, but we're happy as underdogs and will give it our best shot."
