NEWPORT scrum half Dale Burn has broken his ankle and is out for four months, writes Robin Davey.

Burn suffered the injury in last Friday's friendly against Scottish team Peebles at Rodney Parade.

After having an operation, it is already touch and go whether he will be fit for next season. Newport intend recalling 21-year-old Llyr Lane, who has been on loan with Ebbw Vale and has been a regular in the senior side.

But Newport will allow Lane to play for Ebbw Vale in Saturday's Principality Cup semi-final against Llanelli, as they do not wish to stand in the way of him appearing at the Millennium Stadium, even though there is an injury risk.

"Dale had an operation and his ankle was pinned with a plate inserted, but he's very strong willed and if anyone will be back on time it's Dale," said Newport team manager Jim McCreedy.

"We've informed Ebbw Vale of the situation and that Llyr will be recalled, but not until after the semi-final."

l Swansea and ex-Wales prop Ben Evans has signed a two-year deal with the club. Team-mate Selilo Martens is to join Bridgend.
