The Chainbridge, Kemys Commander
NESTLED halfway between Usk and Abergavenny, The Chainbridge offers a lovely riverside setting in which to enjoy a meal.
The pub provides food throughout the week in its dining area with a set menu offering a wide selection of dishes - and there are also a number of daily specials for diners to choose from.
Pat salad with red wine sauce and chicken snippets (chicken wrapped in soft golden batter) with garlic mayonnaise were our respective starter choices following recommendations from the barmaid, and both were delicious.
Main courses of chicken tikka masala and a mixed grill followed soon after - again these were superb. The meat in both dishes was succulent and the helpings generous.
Somehow making room for dessert, my companion enjoyed her huge chocolate fudge cake - but I was a little disappointed with the banana and amaretti cheesecake, which was virtually frozen.
The service was attentive and not overbearing.
Overall The Chainbridge proved a most pleasant experience - friendly service, great food and at a total cost of under £35 for two three course meals, two pints and two large glasses of house red, outstanding value too.
