VISITORS to Newport's city centre will no longer be confronted with an eyesore which blotted the landscape for several years.
Kingsway Bridge, the footbridge near the bus station, was almost completely demolished at the weekend.
Motorists were diverted from the main road while the bridge was taken down by huge cranes.
The road reopened on Monday morning but slightly later than expected. A spokesman for Cossletts, the firm contracted to demolish the bridge, said the riverside ramp was due to be taken down during the week while the remaining columns will be removed next weekend.
