THE Legendary TJ's is asking South Wales bands to submit tracks for a compilation of local talent called I Was a Teenage Gwent Boy 2.
Bands should send CDs, tapes or vinyl to Gwent Boy, TJ's Disco, 16-18 Clarence Place, Newport, Gwent NP19 0AE, or deliver by hand to the bar. Original material is preferred. The compilation will be released in time for Newport's city status celebrations in June. The original I Was a Teenage Gwent Boy was a collection of songs by Newport bands published in the town's heyday when bands like 60ft Dolls and Dub War roamed the pubs and clubs.
The fine selection was gathered by music journalist Andy Fanzine who edited a respected fanzine at the time called Frug.
The early to mid 1990s, when Newport was The New Seattle, saw two other albums of local bands come out: S&M and Dial M for Merthyr.
