HAVING gone 33 games without a draw Cwmbran Town notched up their third in a row at home to Haverfordwest County yesterday.

The 2-2 draw stretches their run of matches without a win to six and it is the first time since October 1999 that they have drawn three consecutive games.

An 88th minute penalty from Chris Summers gave the visitors a share of the spoils and it was no more than the League of Wales strugglers deserved.

With Cwmbran defending a 2-1 lead, Haverfordwest launched an attack down the right and as Richie Adams powered into the box Crows keeper Pat O'Hagan flattened the on-rushing striker.

It was a reckless challenge which earned O'Hagan a yellow card and ultimately cost his side two valuable points.

"I thought I could get to the ball," said the Crows keeper. "I shouldn't have gone out that far and I have to take my fair share of the blame, it was a clumsy challenge."

In a disjointed performance Cwmbran never really got going and struggled to find any kind of rhythm.

Credit for that must partly go to a battling display from Haverfordwest who are fighting for their League of Wales lives.

Sean Wharton and Adam Moore once again formed a central defensive partnership which while effective was far from ideal - and the lack of real bite in midfield meant that the home side were never able to take a firm grip on the game.

Disappointed coach Roger Gibbins said: "We had a winning run and didn't draw a game for 33 matches - now we've drawn three in a row, it's something we need to snap out of. "While the title is looking someway off their are still European places up for grabs.

Cwmbran took the lead in the 65th minute with a goal out of nothing as new signing striker Mark Dunn from Notts County showed he had arrived at Cwmbran Stadium as he tapped in a debut goal after County keeper Carl Woodhouse dropped a John Wile cross. Chris Watkins hit the post with a header before the visitors levelled when Haverfordwest's Simon Heall equalised.

Jason Welsh replaced Neil Smothers - and within minutes he won Town a penalty after being pulled down. Pattimore drove Cwmbran in-front as the Gwent side thought they had bagged the three points until the West Walians' late show.
