POLICE officers at Ebbw Vale got the chance to put their feet up when the force's first health and fitness roadshow came to town.
The canteen at Ebbw Vale Police Station was turned into a consulting room for the afternoon, and staff were able to learn more about keeping fit, general health and alternative therapies.
Gwent Police's occupational health advisers were behind the scheme, which aimed to take a broad approach to health matters.
Shan Eastcott and June Penhelog were kept busy testing blood pressure and cholesterol levels, advising on diet and introducing officers to therapies such as reflexology.
Superintendent Howard Rees, divisional commander of the Blaenau Gwent area, said he was delighted that E Division was the first port of call for the roadshow.
He said the force had recently supported the production of the BBC drama Facing Demons, which looked at the issue of testicular cancer.
"That certainly started people talking," he said. "However, all too often talking is not enough. People need to increase their awareness and take responsibility for their own well being - this is what our roadshows are all about."
A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said health issues were of "great importance" to the force as an employer.
"Policing takes place in a demanding environment which can be dangerous. Staff need to maintain high levels of fitness to be effective."
