A MAN was today being questioned by police after the body of a man was found in a Newport house.
Police were called to a home in Ifton Place, Somerton, yesterday morning. The dead man - who has not been named by police but was said by neighbours to be 36-year-old Paul Scott - was discovered at 10.45am by friends.
Police cordoned off the property as a team of forensic scientists carried out an investigation.
Mr Scott's body was eventually removed from the house at 5.50pm. A post mortem examination was last night carried out at the University of Wales Hospital, in Cardiff. The results were expected to be released later today.
Officers also cordoned off a section of garden fence some 250 yards up the road from the dead man's home yesterday, as part of their investigations.
The cause of Mr Scott's death is still being investigated, but a police spokeswoman confirmed one man was being questioned.
She said: "A 34-year-old local man is in custody following the suspicious death of a 36-year-old man whose body was discovered by friends in his bed late yesterday morning."
The officer heading the investigation is Detective Chief Inspector Terry Hapgood, of Newport police, told the Argus: "We are still trying to find out how the man died and we will have to wait for the results of the Home Office pathologist's post mortem examination."
Police are today continuing to question the Newport man, who was arrested following the discovery of Mr Scott's body.
Last night neighbours of Mr Scott, who lived in a row of semi-detached modern brick homes, said they were shocked by his death.
One woman, who asked not to be named said: "There was a woman and girl in the house who were taken away as well as a man who shared the house with Paul Scott."
