WHEN it comes to catching criminals, Gwent Police has Wales' top dog - literally. Jake, the seven-year-old German Shepherd, and his handler, PC Tony Radford, came out on top at the recent regional police dog handling trials held in Bristol last week.
Now Jake and PC Radford are off to represent Wales at next month's national police dog trials
PC Radford and Jake walked away with three prizes, including the John Over Criminal Work shield, named after a former chief constable of Gwent.
PC Radford said: "I have had Jake since he was a pup, and he is a very good all-round police dog."
"He is primarily a firearms dog, where he is used as a non-lethal option for disarming people with weapons."
PC Radford and Jake will represent Wales at the police dog trials in Nottinghamshire on April 22.
