CWMBRAN entertained Treherbert to the Kings Head Field for the very first time - and the home team were victorious 33-23..
After losing to Treherbert away by one point, Cwmbran were on a revenge mission but they started badly by giving away two penalties which Treherbert converted. But Cwmbran came back with a try by Mark Doughty which Stuart Rosser failed to convert.
The game was very hard and fast and Treherbert replied with a try of their own. Cwmbran's pack were playing well in the scrums but were probably shaded by Treherbert in the loose. The lineouts were 50-50 with Darryl Cox and Stuart Blake serving Cwmbran well. It was a hard encounter with several stoppages for little skirmishes.
After half-time, Cwmbran struck back within a minute with Mark Doughty claiming his third try, converted by Stuart Rosser.
Treherbert were not giving in and they came back with another try. The game was now being played at a furious pace and Cwmbran's full-back Marc Skinner kicked ahead and outstripped the defence for a brilliant try. Skinner and wing Gareth Groves are oozing with pace and should be used much more.
Centre Robert Freebury, who with captain Mike Yamm tackled like demons, was the next to go on the score sheet with a great try which Rosser converted.
Treherbert were now throwing everything at Cwmbran but were unable to break the line and the game ended in Cwmbran's favour.
Cwmbran Athletic continued their winning ways with a good win over Caldicot. The young youth side lost to Bridgend away.
