A GANG of louts brought terror to six drivers as they used bricks to 'bomb' their cars on a main road.
One of the victims is convinced her son is lucky to be alive after the attack. The gang may have used a footbridge to hurl their missiles. Another theory is they hid in bushes at the roadside.
Maria Hardisty (pictured) says son Rhys, 14, escaped serious injury because he was sitting in the front passenger seat of her Vauxhall Cavalier. He normally sits in the back - where the brick smashed the quarterlight scattering glass on the seat.
Mrs Hardisty, of St.Helens Crescent, Llanellen, was driving home at 8.30pm on Sunday and had just turned onto the A4042 at the McDonald's roundabout towards Abergavenny. Then she heard a loud bang after she passed under a footbridge.
"I heard an almighty noise. Rhys was shouting 'the window has been pushed through', so I pulled over," she said.
One the same stretch of road five other vehicles had been forced to stop because of damage in the attack.
One driver had his 12 year-old son with him who was travelling in the front seat. "The windscreen shattered in front of his face. He was a very frightened little boy", she added.
Mrs Hardisty heard what she says was a group of youths who by then were hiding in bushes.
She said the youths taunted them until the police arrived on the scene. Police say they also heard the taunts but could not reach the youths in time to catch them because of a nearby rail line.
Mrs Hardisty said that she feared that "whoever is doing it are not thinking about their actions and when the buzz has gone hopefully they would feel remorse. But my son could have been seriously injured or even killed."
A police spokesman said: "Should anybody have any information regarding this incident, we would ask that they contact us straight away at Pontypool police station on 01495 764711."
