A DISABLED man terrorised in his home by youths has been the victim of another frightening attack.

A week ago, the Argus featured the story of deaf and partially-sighted George Heard, 51, (pictured) who was left terrified when a gang of youths broke into his flat in Pill, Newport, wearing masks as in the film Scream, stealing money and tobacco.

Now, his mother has revealed that in the latest of a string of attacks over the past six months, bricks were thrown through his window just before his case was higlighted in the Argus.

Mr Heard is determined to keep his independence and police are asking his neighbours to watch over him as Newport council attempts to find him a place to live away from his tormentors.

Newport council met with various other agencies last Tuesday to try to find a solution, but Mr Heard is still in the same flat.

His mother, Lillian Heard, aged 67, lives nearby and is able to check up on him daily, but wants him moved away from the offending youths.

She said: "The council still hasn't sorted anything out. He's just sitting in his room, which is all boarded up because they threw two bricks through his window last Saturday.

"The council said they can't move him until they can find a support worker for him. "But I'm afraid to go away even for a day. It's very stressful for me as well. He's got as much right as anybody else to live independently."

The attacks on her son began with eggs being thrown at his windows and drinks cans being thrown at his door.

But the incidents escalated with youths setting fire to his front door, smashing his living room windows with stones, and breaking in to steal money.

It is the third time he has had to have his windows boarded up. Sgt Roger Booth, of Pill Police, confirmed that Mr Heard's front windows had again been damaged. He added: "We are particularly keen for people in the locality to look out for Mr Heard and report any incidents regarding him or his property."

He said investigations were ongoing into all incidents that had been reported. A Newport council spokeswoman said: "We are very sympathetic and are working with various agencies to find alternative accommodation and provide support which will ensure George can enjoy a good quality of life."

Anyone with any information about the incidents involving Mr Heard are asked to contact Pill police on 01633 244999.
