RISCA got their first double of the season when they defeated Builth Wells in a very close encounter by 19-17.
Builth were the first to score after ten minutes with a good try which was converted, followed by a penalty.
It was 24 minutes when Risca came to life and put some excellent phases together, and after some fine work by Scott Alderman and Lee Selway broke down the Builth defence, Ewan Powell stole away up the blind side to score a cracking try wide out, Wayne Taylor failed with the kick, and with Risca still pressing, it was Builth (always willing to run the ball), scored a long range try, after Risca lost the ball.
The Builth left wing ran 70 metres to go in unopposed with an easy conversion, but Risca struck straight back with an individual try and conversion by Wayne Taylor to make half time 17-12 to Builth. This score took Taylor's points for the season to 102. After the interval, the Risca crowd were entertained with end to end rugby with both defences holding out.
But the Risca pack finally got on top and with some excellent work by Mathew Payne and Liam Llewellyn in the lineout worked the play to the Builth line with the clock ticking towards time up and Builth defending their line with a scrum, the Risca forwards drove over for captain Nicky Clewer to get the vital try and Taylor to get the winning points with the conversion.
Risca travel to Hirwaun this Saturday.
