CWMBRAN Town's record League Of Wales goal-scorer Mattie Davies has re-signed for The Crows - and promises to make a deadly partnership with 13-goal hot-shot Craig Hughes which could land the Gwent side the League of Wales title.
The signing comes only 48 hours after Davies put a huge dent in Cwmbran's championship challenge after scoring both fellow challengers Barry Town's goals in their Boxing Day win.
Cardiff-based Davies had a phenomenal goal-scoring record in his previous five-year stint with Cwmbran, banging in 126 goals in just 171 appearances.
And if the 25-year-old rekindles that kind of goal-scoring and hitman Hughes continues hitting the back of the net, it could be the signing that could land Cwmbran the championship.
"It's great being back at Cwmbran," smiled Davies. "I am looking forward to making a useful partnership with Craig Hughes who is scoring goals for fun.
"Hopefully I can re-ignite my goal-scoring touch that I had during my previous time at Cwmbran because I know I am capable of scoring lots of goals in the League Of Wales." Davies left Cwmbran in the summer for Barry but after an unhappy six-month stay at Jenner Park, the 25-year-old has been snapped up by Town boss Tony Willcox.
Davies added: "I feel a lot fitter and consider myself a better player now than when I left for Barry. I went to Barry because I had to see if I could do it full-time. "I did enjoy my time there but the manager Kenny Brown made it clear that I was down the pecking order.
"I thought about my future for a couple of weeks and Tony said there was always a place for me at Cwmbran so I went back. I loved my years at Cwmbran and the people there are great, lets hope that I can continue where I left off."
