A YOUNG mother who went out for a Boxing Day drink was left scarred for life after a vicious attack.
Sally Griffiths, 22, was glassed while she was unconscious after being attacked in a packed pub.
Now Ms Griffiths, of Bryn Glas, Pontllanfraith, says her two-year-old daughter, Lauren, can barely look at her because of the bruising to her arms, body and face and the nine stitches above her right eye.
Ms Griffiths had been enjoying a drink at the Trecelyn Inn, Newbridge, with some old schoolfriends when she was attacked just after 11.20pm by several people who she says she has never even met or seen before.
Ms Griffiths said: "There was a fight in the pub and I tried to get past some people because I needed to go to the toilet. The next thing I knew I was being attacked by several people. I went to the ground and was kicked all over my body. "Somebody then grabbed me by the hair and tried to bash my head on the floor. I reached out to grab their hand to stop them doing it and the kicks started raining down on me again.
"The next thing I knew, I was over at the end of the pub lying in a pool of my own blood which was pumping out from a gash over my right eye.
"I was very groggy when I came round and I didn't know what had happened to me but then I noticed I was covered in glass.
"Whoever glassed me did it when I was unconscious and I think they are absolutely sick." Sally is now trying to come to terms with the ordeal at the home she shares with partner Simon Phillips, 26, and their daughter.
She added: "This attack has really traumatised my family and I haven't been able to sleep since the attack - whenever I see my face in the mirror I break down and cry." Claire Morgan, licensee of the Trecelyn Inn, said: "It was so busy in the pub that we didn't know what was going on until everyone joined in. We called the police straight away." A spokeswoman for Risca police said: "We have one or two witnesses who saw the attack but we need more people to come forward.
"From what we understand, the pub was packed at the time of the assault so there must be more people who can help us with our inquiries.
"This was a particularly nasty attack at a time when everybody should be enjoying themselves, and happy."
One person was questioned by police in connection with the incident. Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to contact police on 01633 612391.
