SPEED traps will no longer be allowed to be hidden from motorists. From next April, Gwent Police are set to join up to a new national speed enforcement system.
It will mean mobile speed camera users must be highly visible by wearing fluorescent clothing and their vehicles must be marked with reflective strips.
The new measures will also see warning and speed limit reminders being placed within 1,000 metres of fixed and mobile camera sights - but this will not affect Gwent, as there are no fixed traps in the county.
The change in policy is in line with police forces nationwide, who are adopting new government guidelines on speed traps announced this week.
And it comes just two weeks after the Argus revealed that more than 1,500 motorists had been caught speeding along Cardiff Road, Newport, in just six months. An unmarked police van was often seen parked in the entrance to Belle Vue Park.
