OVER the past month the people of Wales have voted for their favourite singers, bands, DJs, producers, nightclubs and records. Next week the results will be revealed at the inaugural Welsh Dance & Rock and Pop Music Awards.
Organised by South Wales' listings magazine, Buzz, the award ceremony will take place in the Coal Exchange on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 December from 8pm.
"This is not just a back slapping 'black tie event'," said publisher of Buzz, Emma Clark. "This is celebrating up and coming talent that is among some of the best in the world, not just in Wales."
The public were asked to cast their votes based on nominations by record shops and labels in Wales although space was allowed for the public's 'other' choices.
Among the nominees were Blackwood boys, Manic Street Preachers for Outstanding Contribution to Rock & Pop Music, Best Group, Best Video for So Why So Sad, and Best Special Event, and the Blackwood Miners' Institute and The Legendary TJ's for Best Live Venue (over 500 capacity).
The two nights have bands and DJs for entertainment plus celebrities, such as international dope smuggler Howard Marks and Radio One DJ Bethyn Elfyn.
The Rock Awards on Thursday December 6 has JT Mouse (folk), Tetra Splendour (psychedelic rock), Jarcrew (hip hop), Lost Prophets (metal) and Benn (acoustic rock).
The Dance Awards on Friday December 7 has Jean Jacques Smoothie (dance DJ of 2People fame), Erban Poets (hip hop), Untouchablez (R'n'B/hip hop) and Manchild (live techno).
