NEWBRIDGE will go joint top of the Welsh First Division table tomorrow if they overcome Bedwas at the Welfare Ground.
They will also make it ten wins in a row, the best run by a Division One team this season. But they know they face a tough challenge against opponents who are themselves fourth, just a point behind Newbridge and for whom victory would take them second behind Pontypool.
"If we can maintain our current form we are going to be a hard side to beat," said Newbridge team manager Keith Westwood.
"We have the best defensive record in the division and in beating Blackwood on Saturday our pack was again outstanding in the second half, though if Blackwood had taken their chances in the first ten minutes it could have been difficult for us."
Bedwas too were pleased with their second half display in losing narrowly at Pontypool. "We gave Pontypool a game," said team manager Mal Minty. "We showed a lot of character and guts and a fair bit of skill as well.
"This is another tough game, but the team have regained some form and we hope to perform well again."
Newbridge have several players nursing knocks, forwards Geraint Gladwyn (back) and Anthony Edwards (shoulder) the worst and delay naming their side.
Bedwas have few worries, but have made nine changes with borrowed Bridgend outside half Paul Williams playing in the centre.
Stefan Sankala comes in on the right wing with Paul Phillips reverting to full back and Greg Downes starts at scrum half. Up front there are two changes at prop, two in the back row and one in the second row.
Bedwas: P Phillips, S Sankala, P Williams, A Harrison, M Pizey, G Samuels, G Downes, R Bilton, L Tomlins, D Sweet, R Edwards, L Griffiths, D Hawthorne, S Grainger, D Mattravers. Replacements: J Tilley, T Carless, M Wilson, A Evans, H Davies, W Bray, M Evans. Kick-off 7.15pm.
*PICTURED: Jason Williams is in fine form.
