THE New World Cantonese Restaurant, Cardiff Road, Newport. Conveniently situated at the town centre end of Cardiff Road in Newport, the New World Cantonese Restuarant offers an excellent choice of dishes and caters extremely well for vegetarians.
My wife and myself were warmly welcomed by the pleasant staff and seated in the cosy restuarant. We were brought excellent prawn crackers while we looked at the menu.
My wife, who is a vegetarian, was particularly pleased with the choice the menu gave her and decided to start with crispy onion rings which came with a delicious sweet chili sauce. I decided to try a half portion of the Peking ribs cantonese sweet and sour style. The ribs were excellent and I'm glad I didn't have a full portion because the half portion was very generous.
For our main courses my wife decided on sweet and sour vegetables and I chose duck with plum sauce. We complemented our meals with soft noodles with beansprouts and egg fried rice.
My wife was very pleased with her meal, finding the sweet and sour balls excellent. I would have liked a little more plum sauce with my duck but found the meat very good.
There were generous portions of both the rice and noodles with beansprouts which were both good. We had house red wine with our meal which was also to a high standard. We were both too full to try one of the desserts.
If you're looking for a cosy restuarant with excellent food, good service and value for money - and close to the town centre - the New World Cantonese Restuarant is a very good choice. Steve Phillips
