NEWPORT County's cup heroics is set to land them an extra £200,000 windfall. Sky Sports last night confirmed that County's FA Cup first-round replay against Blackpool at Newport Stadium will be televised live with the eagerly-awaited re-match now put back two days to Wednesday week (November 28).
That will put an extra £100,000 into the County coffers - a massive boost for the Dr Martens Premier League side.
Coupled with the £37,500 in prize money the Exiles have received from getting this far in the world's most famous domestic cup competition - as well as a share of the gate receipts collected on their glorious run to date.
The cash pocketed for the two matches with Swindon Supermarine in the first qualifying round, Andover in the second, two games against Conference club Woking in the third and the two fixtures versus Second Division Blackpool has certainly help swell their bank balance.
Also Newport have received £6,000 for playing in the FAW Premier Cup and if they get through to the quarter-final knock-out stages - which they are still favourites to achieve after their goalless draw with Camarthen last night - they will gain a further £20,000. County are also through to the second round of the FA Umbro Trophy but the prize-money earned so far is not as great as the other two cup competitions.
The news that the game will be screened to millions of Sky subscribers was greeted with broad smiles at Newport Stadium yesterday.
The raising of County's profile could now help the non-league club land further sponsorship from local businesses.
"It is brilliant news," smiled County chairman Wallace Brown. "It is a massive all-round financial boost for the club."
Manager Tim Harris added: We are talking phenomenal amounts of money, cash that this club could have only dreamt about 12 months ago.
"With that sort of cash boost it is important that the club is structured right - and it is." County, meanwhile, have repaid the near thousand fans who travelled to Blackpool by freezing ticket prices for the home replay at the 3,000-capacity Newport Stadium. More than 1,500 tickets were snapped up within hours of them going on sale as fans queued for over an hour last night.
All of the grandstand tickets have been sold but there are still terracing tickets available, costing the normal £7 for adults and £4 for concessions. Fans are allowed two tickets per person and can only be bought on a cash-only basis. Opposition supporters will be segregated and Blackpool will be allowed a 400 tickets for their travelling fans.
Tickets will again be on sale at Newport Stadium tonight between 6pm and 8pm and Thursday between 6pm and 7pm. Season Ticket holders must collect their tickets before 7pm on Thursday. Remaining tickets will be sold at Saturday's Dr Martens Premier League clash with Tiverton Town (3pm).
The winners of the Rochdale/Tamworth replay tomorrow week face County - if they can get through to the second round.
County's FAW Premier Cup game with Cwmbran next Monday has been postponed. No new date has been set.
