EDUCATION minister Jane Davidson opened an information shop for young people in Newport.
The Newport Info Shop at 133 Commercial Street, Newport, is the first to be opened under the national, corporate image established by Canllaw Online.
Ms Davidson told the Argus: "Only a few months ago I officially launched Canllaw Online, an exciting initiative concerned with providing information services for young people.
And here we are today with the first of what I hope are going to be many outlets across Wales which will help children and young people everywhere."
The shop, which opened on Saturday, provides information, support and guidance for young people in a friendly, informal environment.
Information can be gained through leaflets, brochures and posters as well as multimedia systems such as the Internet, CD-ROM programmes and databases. Emma Kirkbride, Newport council's senior youth information worker and manager of the Newport Info Shop, said: "We hope this facility will be an invaluable resource for young people and agencies in the locality."
Ms Davidson thanked Newport council and Newport Youth Service, the Wales Youth Agency and Canllaw Online, for their work on the project.
