IT'S very nearly that time of year again, and if you want to take in a pantomime or Christmas show with the kids you need to move quickly to secure your tickets.

Seats for this year's offering of Cinderella at Newport's Dolman Theatre are already selling fast, with most of the matinee performances on Saturdays, and New Year's Day, very nearly sold out.

The show, by Newport Pantomime and Musical Society, runs from December 29 to January 12, so, as spokesman Len Seer told Mono: "Why not support your local artists, old and young, who have given their time freely and put so much effort into a terrific production."

Producer and director Basil Jones has promised a colourful pantomime full of laughter, and a touch of magic, as Cinderella makes her journey from rags to riches.

He is assisted by musical director Garth Jones, and choreography by top Gwent dance tutor Vanessa Clarke, who look set to guarantee an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza.

It's a production by all the family as well as for them, with all the dancers' costumes having been supplied by the mums.

Natasha Griffiths takes the part of Cinderella, while newcomer Abigail Miller is her Prince Charming.

Meanwhile, hilarity and a few surprises are inevitable, we are told, with the comic duo of Martin Ford and Gerald Needs playing the Ugly sisters.

With a strong supporting cast and dedicated young dancers, it looks like a thoroughly entertaining evening.

Which brings us to one of the more unusual appeals you're likely to hear - pantomime production seeks pony, Shetland or other.

It's true, Newport Pantomime and Musical Society need a pony for their production, so if you can help, please contact Len Seer on 01633 677611.

Cinderella plays the Dolman Theatre from December 29 to January 12. Tickets are priced at £5 for children, £7 for adults.
