BEDWAS have taken the Welsh League First Division by storm and far exceeded all expectations to deservedly be on top of the table.

But it's crunch time now with six away games in the next six weeks set to test their ability to the full.

If a visit to last season's champions Aberavon on Saturday wasn't enough, they also have to travel to Pontypool, Newbridge and Carmarthen Quins in that six-game spell.

And coach Steve Law admits the run ahead will show the club just how good they are. "I definitely think the next two months will define where Bedwas really stand in the First Division," said Law.

"Aberavon are first up and they are a formidable side on their own patch. We will have to play to our full potential to come up with any sort of result.

"It's a tough ask to play away on five Saturdays with every game a tough one.

"It is the consistent teams who reap the benefits and so far we have been just that.

"We regard every game as a new challenge and we know if we do play to our potential we are capable of beating any side in the division.

"We have a good blend of experience and youth, a lot of talent and the will to win."

Despite being held to a 12-12 draw at home by Blackwood on Wednesday, Bedwas showed with their tremendous fightback that they lead the table by right.

"That game felt like a loss," said Law. "Although Blackwood were the better side in the first half, we squandered so many opportunities after the break through a lack of composure and bad options by quality players. The players know they can't get away with that against the top sides.

"It was disappointing that we created opportunities but didn't execute things properly." Bedwas like to play an expansive 15-man game and some outsiders have questioned whether they will be as strong when the December/January weather breaks.

"It is a slight concern," admitted Law. "It is no secret we like to play a running game, but we feel we have a squad which can play it tight as well if we have to."

Bedwas make two changes from the Blackwood game, Darren Sweet replacing Mike Wilson in the front row and Darren Hawthorne taking over from Hywel Davies in the back row.
