RISCA cameraman David Baker (pictured) is stationed in Islamabad filing the war on terror in Afghanistan for ITN. This is the start of his diary...
Saturday, October 20 I arrived in Islamabad at about 11:20am. I didn't even unpack my bags before I collapsed on my bed crashed out. I was awoken an hour later because ITN wanted us to do a story about a bomb that had gone off in Islamabad airport. It turned out to be a small device planted by Taliban supporters. Thankfully no-one was hurt.
Sunday, October 21 We have been filming in Rawalpindi - the scene of the largest demonstration so far in Pakistan.
The group managed to get around 10,000 people to a rally that passed off fairly peacefully.
I did see people carrying guns and an effigy of President Musharaff was burnt. Most of the people around here seem to idolise Osama bin Laden, carrying around romanticised pictures of him, sword in one hand, astride a big, white horse and charging away from the burning World Trade Centre.
I am not entirely sure the people realise the symbolism of the picture they were holding. Although everything passed without incident, the demonstrators would get pretty animated as soon as it looked like we were filming them. Then when we put the camera down they would walk away.
Over the next week it looks like we are going to move closer to the border of Afghanistan to check out the refugee situation - I'll keep you all informed.
