A GWENT comprehensive school banned a father from entering its grounds after he attacked a teacher.
The father of the Caldicot Comprehensive School pupil lashed out during a lunchtime meeting earlier this month after hearing that his son was to be given a temporary suspension by Norman West, head of the Grey Hill building.
John Norwood, head teacher at the school, confirmed there was an incident at the school involving a parent and a teacher.
He said: "There was an interview with the parents of a boy in the school. The father became aerated and was angry, and when he was leaving the room he grabbed the throat of the head of school."
Mr Norwood said the struggle that ensured was broken up by deputy head teacher Debra Baldcock.
Mr Norwood told the Argus: "There were no injuries to either party. Since then both parents have made numerous apologies to Mr West."
Mr Norwood said the incident was over very quickly but it had been reported to the police.
He added the pupil was being suspended after committing two or three offences which warranted such action.
He said: "It's not something we welcome but the matter is now resolved. The father has been asked not to come on the school premises and all communication is to be through the mother."
Mr Norwood said the decision to exclude the father would be reviewed periodically. He added he did not know if Mr West would be taking any further action.
Police confirmed officers had attended the school and had spoken to the father and offered some advice.
A spokesman said there would be no prosecution of the father involved.
