INJURED Mark Williams goes into the last 16 of the LG Cup at Preston Guild Hall with a game against Stoke's Dave Harold this afternoon looking to book a place in tomorrow's quarter finals.
The Cwm star said he nearly pulled out of his second round match against Australian ace Quinten Hann on Tuesday after being rushed to hospital, where it was revealed he had suffered tendon and ligament damage to his ankle after he fell on steps at his Gwent home last weekend.
Williams overcame his mishap, and went on to gain a 5-4 win against Hann, to guarantee a pay cheque of £9,600. Williams, who was on crutches over the weekend, underwent further physio yesterday in a desperate bid to keep in the tournament.
World number one Williams said he had to rely on a pal to drive him to Preston, having decided to take part in the event only 24 hours before his match against Hann.
Reflecting on his agonising win against Hann, Williams said: "It was a nightmare - my left foot was in agony. My legs are still aching".
Second seed Williams added: "I need rest. I've had some physio which worked well. I took the chance and I was glad to get through against Hann.
"Hopefully my leg will be a little better for the match against Dave Harold, following further physio".
