ORGANISERS of a horseriding protest through a country lane danger area said they were delighted with the response from motorists.
Kerry Diver and sister Tammy Reed organised the event on Sunday with their father Stephen Cunningham to highlight the dangers faced by riders and motorists on the Henllys country lane.
More than 20 riders and 10 walkers took part in the protest which began at Hollybush community centre at 10am.
The procession went to 14 locks before returning to Hollybush. Mrs Reed, of Wordsworth Close, Cwmbran, said: "I'd like to thank all those who took part because we had a fantastic turnout.
"We had some very encouraging feedback and we actually ran out of leaflets to hand out before we reached the halfway point of the journey."
The event was organised as part of a national campaign organised by Horse and Hound magazine to make country lanes safer and encourage mutual respect between motorists and riders.
The campaign follows the death of six riders in the UK already this year. Riders from Croesyceiliog also took part in a similar event on Saturday. The organisers plan to make the protest an annual event until safety measures are implemented.
