BROTHERS James and Matthew Pizey emphasise just why local derbies are so closely-fought - they will be on opposite sides in one tomorrow.

James, 20, is one of the Cross Keys scrum halves and Matthew, 25, a Bedwas wing. The teams clash at Pandy Park.

Matthew's pace has already brought him tries in Bedwas' great start to life in the Welsh First Division which has taken them into third spot with six wins and a draw. And James has shown promise and fighting spirit in Keys' inconsistent 3-3 start on his elevation from Division Six with Bargoed.

Father Philip, himself a former Bargoed player, and mum Rosina, regularly watch their sons in action and say they will be strictly neutral tomorrow.

Keys coach John Hall-Moore will be looking for more clinical finishing from Keys after his team wasted possession in defeat at Blackwood on Tuesday.

"I seldom get as animated as I was at half time in that game," he said. "We have to learn the lessons from it and make sure we score points, be it a dropped goal or penalty or whatever, when we are in the opposition 22.

"On the positive side, our set-piece play was greatly improved, but of concern is the contact area.

"We have to make sure that we adapt to how the official referees that area." Hall-Moore expects another tough test from Bedwas and says he's not surprised at their results.

"They have kept the nucleus of last season's side and recruited well. They are well coached by Ian Gardener and his team.

"But it's on our home patch and one of our targets at the start of the season was not to lose at home. We have to start well and play for the whole eighty minutes." Gardener commented: "It's our toughest test so far. Pandy Park's a hard place to win and we are under no illusions we will have to play better than we did on Tuesday (in beating Rumney).

"That was not a pretty game, but we had numerous injuries and the players gave 100% to maintain our record.

One player Bedwas will be looking out for is Keys outside half Gethin Worgan, brilliant against Merthyr last week but poor at Blackwood on Tuesday.

"I coached Gethin from a young age and he's a real enigma," said Gardener. "He can be very good or very bad, but on his day he's a match-winner."

Bedwas are virtually back to full strength for tomorrow's game with flanker Matthew Lewis, hooker Lee Tomlins, centre John Welch and wing Dana Young all recovered from injury.

Keys delay naming their side until just before the start with scrum half Neil Hope their biggest doubt with a thigh injury.
