A NEWPORT student died at the weekend following a car crash on the M4 near Bristol. Irfan Khan, 24, of Pilton Vale, Malpas, died in the early hours of Saturday when his car was involved in a collision between Bristol and Bath.
His car flipped on its side and went into the fast lane of the M4 where police say it was hit by at least two cars, which did not stop.
Mr Khan, (pictured) a student at the University of Wales, Cardiff, was returning to Newport with a female friend after a trip to London.
Mr Khan was driving West on the M4 between junctions 18 and 19 at about 4am, when a collision threw him through the windscreen of his car onto the fast lane.
His Vauxhall Corsa came off the road and fell on its side, injuring his female passenger, from Cardiff.
The M4 westbound was closed by police for approximately seven hours and police are keen to trace witnesses.
A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset police said: "We are renewing our appeal for information regarding this collision.
"It is believed that he was hit by more than one vehicle, none of which stopped. "Officers are particularly keen to hear from the driver of a white vehicle and another vehicle thought to be a Saab, which may have collision damage. "Also we would like to speak to the driver of a G-registered Volvo mentioned by witnesses at the scene, who may have valuable information about the incident.
"Witnesses have also said a heavy goods vehicle had to brake heavily near the scene.
"If anyone can help, then we would ask that they contact Avon and Somerset police on 01275 818181, or call Crimestoppers on 0500 888111."
