A WOMAN was picked up by a taxi driver in Newport and sexually assaulted, say Gwent Police.
They are appealing for witnesses to the incident which took place on Sunday, September 23, between 12am and 12.30am at the Glebeland Recreation Field.
Police have issued an E-fit of the man sought. Police say the assault happened after the 34-year-old woman had been picked up by a taxi outside the Old Monk pub in High Street. The woman asked to be driven home but the driver drove to the recreation field where he is understood to have carried out the assault before apologising and driving her home, detectives say.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to help identify the driver.
They are looking to question a man who is described as white, in his 40s, of slim build with light brown coloured hair, cleanly shaven and with a long nose.
He was described as wearing a light-coloured T-shirt and jeans.
The car involved in the attack is believed to be a four-door saloon, possibly dark blue in colour.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Constable Anna Marie Mahoney on 01633 246999.
