CELTIC Manor officials and members of the Wales Ryder Cup bid committee were left in limbo yesterday when it was announced that a decision concerning the 2009 Ryder Cup is not to be made until Friday at the earliest.

A spokesman for the Newport resort believes that the whole process is in a state of flux following the events in America and that all meetings concerning the bid were being hastily re-arranged.

The decision had been expected to be formally announced yesterday that was then delayed with lunchtime today given as a possible time for the decision to be confirmed.

That to has changed and it could now be well into next week before an official announcement is made concerning the destination of the games most prestigious event. Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the Wales Ryder Cup bid was unable to even confirm if the tournament would be played in 2009 as originally planned or moved to 2010. "Everything is up in the air at the moment," she said.

"The events in America have had a knock-on effect on the dates of the meetings, at the moment we can only speculate as to when an announcement is likely to made. "But when they do make a decision we would expect them to confirm the year at the same time."
