PONTYPOOL'S 100 per cent record was torn to shreds by a scintillating display from Division One minnows Llandovery.
The part-timers confounded their critics with six breathtaking tries that left the home crowd shell-shocked by a 46-25 defeat.
And it was a Pontypool performance marred by the same set piece problems that have haunted them al season. Pooler's line out was a shambles and without the leadership and presence of the injured Byron Hayward at number 10 they looked rattled and bemused.
Yet things started brightly for the home side when they took the lead through a penalty from replacement outside half Richard Jenkins. From the kick-off Ponty again attacked, forcing a line out deep in Llandovery's half. Short line out ball was driven forward and a well spotted blind side pass by Nicky Lloyd to Arthur Howarth saw the flanker sneak over the line for the opening try, which went unconverted by Jenkins for an 8-0 lead.
With Pontypool seemingly holding all the aces, Llandovery still had the trump card. A magical 25 minutes saw them cross with four dazzling tries as attack after attack clawed open Ponty's defence. Most spectacular of all was their first. A beautiful shimmy of the hips by centre Tracey Lewis saw the number 13 cut through the back line to burst 20 yards up field. A simple pass to full back Stuart Harris finished the move off to level the scores 8-8.
To the despair of the home fans it was more of the same from the kick off as Llandovery's centre Rhodri Davies cheekily double chip kicked the ball over two players to score a sensational try, which Harris converted for a 15-8 lead.
The visitors extended their score with a brace of well taken tries by Davies, for his second, and outside half Neil Clapham, for a half time lead of 29-8.
Despite looking jaded Pooler staged a gutsy fight back in the second half. Hooker Leighton Jones pounced on a loose ball to score an unconverted try.
Uni Moa and Ben Jefferies were brought on for the home side and the pair made an immediate impact with a number of breaks over the gain line. Lenny Woodard was next to score when he burst over from a close range maul. Another try from lock Kuli Faletau closed the gap to four points. But their efforts were in vain as Llandovery scored another two tries and a penalty.
